University rankings can be useful when researching architecture programs, but should students rely on rankings alone?

The 2026 QS Architecture & Built Environment ranking places UCL first, MIT second and TU Delft third. ETH Zurich and Manchester School of Architecture follow.



However, architecture is a highly practical and design-oriented discipline. Studio culture, faculty expertise, portfolio development, technical facilities and opportunities for real-world projects can have a major influence on a student's experience.

Cost is another important factor. Tuition can vary substantially between universities and countries, while scholarship availability can change the financial equation.
