The current
Salmonella outbreak in the US has raised questions about food recalls and how consumers can protect themselves.
Health authorities have linked the outbreak to fresh jalapeño peppers imported from Sinaloa, Mexico. As of August 5, 2026, 345 illnesses and 36 hospitalizations had been reported across 27 states. No deaths had been reported.

The implicated peppers were distributed by Coast Citrus Distributors and supplied to restaurants and food-service businesses. Authorities advised businesses and consumers not to eat, sell, or serve recalled peppers connected with the investigation.
Additional prepared-food recalls followed, including selected Taylor Farms products containing the implicated jalapeños.
Food recalls can be confusing, particularly when products move through multiple distributors and restaurants. Checking official announcements is therefore more reliable than relying on unverified social-media information.
