Published on Apr 10, 2019 The first direct image of a black hole was captured by the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT). Using an array of radio telescopes during a 2017 global campaign, astronomers observed the black hole at the centre of Messier 87, a massive galaxy in the nearby Virgo galaxy cluster.
