How Are Olympic Medal Rankings Calculated?

[Campus reveiw]

Olympic medal rankings may look straightforward, but the method used to rank countries can significantly affect the results.

One approach gives priority to gold medals, followed by silver and bronze. Another approach simply compares the combined number of medals won.

Historical comparisons can also become complicated when former National Olympic Committees are included separately from their successor states.

The Campus Review's guide examines these considerations while comparing countries with the highest Olympic medal totals.
