How are rivers classified in physical geography?

I've been looking at river systems and noticed that there are several ways to classify rivers.



One approach is based on flow:

Perennial
Seasonal
Ephemeral

But rivers can also be studied according to their course, drainage basin and the landforms they create.

For example, erosion and deposition can produce features such as valleys, meanders, floodplains, oxbow lakes and deltas.
