The year was 1665 AD and Aurangzeb's Mughal army lead by rajput commander Ram Singh had invaded Assam. The then 400 year old Ahom dynasty that resisted all Islamic invasions so far is about to collapse. The losses started 8 years ago with Mir Jumla's naval invasion. After a long series of indecisive skirmishes Ram Singh decided to put a final nail in the Ahom coffin by launching a major naval attack on the Brahmaputra. Thus ensues the battle of Saraighat fought in 1671 AD where the Mughals expected an easy victory. But there was one person who would save the day for Assam - Lachit Borpukan - the Ahom general. This video is a tribute to that forgotten part of Indian history and to the brave son of Assam.
