Understanding ISRO's NVS-03 Mission and Its Role in NavIC

Campus reveiw
ISRO is scheduled to launch the NVS-03 navigation satellite aboard the GSLV-F18 rocket on October 30, 2026. The mission is planned from the Second Launch Pad at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota.

NVS-03 is part of India's next-generation navigation satellite series. Its purpose is to support continuity of navigation services for the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS), also known as NavIC.

Some important features include:

An L1 navigation signal alongside existing L5/S signals.

An indigenous atomic clock, together with procured atomic clocks.

Coverage over India's landmass and a surrounding region extending approximately 1,500 km beyond the country's geopolitical boundary.

The mission is an interesting topic for anyone following satellite navigation, space engineering, or India's scientific developments.

The Campus Review has published an explainer covering the launch schedule, GSLV-F18, NavIC technology, and the mission's significance.
