Rivers don't all behave in the same way. Some flow throughout the year, while others appear only during wet seasons or after heavy rainfall.

In geography, rivers can be classified according to their flow and channel shape. Perennial rivers flow year-round, intermittent rivers flow periodically, and ephemeral rivers usually carry water only after rainfall.
