What Are the Federal Agencies Investigating at UND?

The University of North Dakota is currently under investigation concerning its foreign funding disclosures.

The U.S. Department of Education and Department of State said they opened the investigation after reviewing university records and identifying potential issues involving incomplete, inaccurate and untimely disclosures.



One area of focus is UND's School of Aerospace and its uncrewed air systems work.

The agencies are asking UND to provide documentation covering foreign gifts and contracts, international research collaborations, foreign agreements and the university's internal compliance structure.

This case is part of a broader federal focus on foreign financial transparency at American universities. Section 117 requires federally assisted institutions to disclose foreign-source gifts and contracts valued at $250,000 or more annually.

The investigation remains ongoing.
