What Are the Ivy League Schools?

The Ivy League is a group of eight private universities in the northeastern United States.

The eight members are:

Brown University
Columbia University
Cornell University
Dartmouth College
Harvard University
University of Pennsylvania
Princeton University
Yale University


The Ivy League was originally created around intercollegiate athletics. Today, however, the term is strongly associated with academic and research excellence.

For international students, it is important to compare the individual universities rather than treating them as identical. The Ivy League agreement confirms that each member retains its own identity and makes independent admission decisions.
