The
world's largest forest ecosystems vary greatly in climate, vegetation and geographical setting.
The Taiga represents an enormous belt of boreal forest across northern regions, while the Amazon and Congo are major tropical rainforest ecosystems. Other extensive forest regions include the Miombo Woodlands and forests of New Guinea.

When comparing forest size, it is important to check how each region is defined. A biome, ecological region, woodland system and specifically named forest may have different boundaries.
The Campus Review's guide provides an introduction to major forests, their locations, approximate areas, wildlife and environmental importance.
