Human evolution explains how modern humans and their earlier relatives developed over millions of years.
Seven important groups commonly discussed in educational overviews are:
Sahelanthropus tchadensis
Australopithecus
Homo habilis
Homo erectus
Homo heidelbergensis
Neanderthals
Homo sapiens

Each group provides evidence about different aspects of evolutionary history, including walking adaptations, body structure, tool use, and changes in human behaviour.
Fossils and archaeological discoveries help scientists reconstruct this history. However, these groups should not be viewed as seven consecutive steps. Human evolution involved multiple branches, and different species existed at overlapping times.
Discussion question: Which development do you think had the greatest impact on human evolution: walking upright, tool use, or complex social behaviour?
