What Could a No-Loan College Policy Mean for Students?

Campus reveiw
Carleton College’s announcement raises an interesting higher-education question: how does removing loans from financial aid packages change the cost of attending college?

Beginning in fall 2027, Carleton plans to use grants, scholarships and student employment instead of federal and institutional loans in its financial aid packages.

The policy was supported by more than $80 million in donor commitments, while the college is seeking further funding for long-term sustainability.

A no-loan model does not necessarily mean that every student attends without paying anything. Financial aid still depends on each student's circumstances and the institution's aid methodology.

The Campus Review looks at the policy and its implications for students considering Carleton.
