The University of Texas at Austin has been reviewing its undergraduate core curriculum to consider how general education can better prepare students for leadership, citizenship and future challenges.


The university's core curriculum currently requires 42 semester hours and covers several broad academic areas, including:

Communication
Humanities
Government
U.S. History
Mathematics
Social and Behavioral Sciences
Natural Science and Technology
Visual and Performing Arts

The review is intended to examine the quality, rigor and coherence of students' shared educational experience.
