This question is surprisingly difficult to answer because historical and modern IQ scores cannot always be compared directly.


Marilyn vos Savant is famous for a historically cited score of 228, while Terence Tao is frequently associated with an IQ around 225–230. William James Sidis is sometimes given an estimated IQ of 250–300, but that figure is not based on a modern standardized score.

For that reason, it is more accurate to discuss people associated with the highest reported IQ scores rather than claim there is one undisputed world champion.
